Dear Friends:

I am writing to let you know about my new film project, Facing East. The film, based on the powerful award winning play by Carol Lynn Pearson and directed by Tony nominee Will Swenson, tells the story of a prominent Mormon couple reassessing their lives after the suicide of their gay son. The film will not only be a wonderful piece of dramatic art, but an important catalyst for social change.

While other films have addressed the issue of religious bigotry, this film will attempt to do more than “preach to the choir.” We are intent on making a film that will be able to touch Mormons and other religious families who are facing the conflicting issues that occur when a loved one comes out.

When word that this popular play is being made into a movie spread many people expressed interest in donating to help ensure its success. For this purpose we have organized the Facing East Contribution Fund. We are thrilled to be sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contribution in behalf of The Facing East Contribution Fund may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

We are happy to accept tax-deductible charitable donations of any size up to $5,000.00.  Contributions may be made by a check, given to myself or to one of the other producers, or by credit card online at Fractured Atlas. To learn more please go to:

All proceeds resulting from donations made through the Facing East Contribution Fund are donated to The Trevor Project, the nation’s only suicide hotline for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.

We hope to be in production by Autumn 2011, so please make your donations today.

If you have any questions please feel free to email us at

Thanks again.
